Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents his first championship since the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to create a final set.

He saved four initial chances in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured the win with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
